Landing a job during a pandemic will be tough!  The hiring process has changed in many ways because of Covid-19.  From the traditional in-person hiring process to remote where potential candidates go through everything virtually, 2021 does not promise that things will go back to normal and that we will all be back in an office again anytime soon.

According to Jessica Hernandez, Director of Human Resources at Cam-Lane Industries, remote jobs are becoming the “new normal” and is a trend that is not going away anytime soon. What does this mean for the way that you will have to change your job search strategies?

Strategies for Finding a Job in 2021:

1. Increase your virtual network
Increase your virtual network.  LinkedIn is the number one way to meet and increase your network of colleagues. You should start a LinkedIn page immediately if you don’t have one.  Also, join an online Job Club where you will have the opportunity to meet and network with other people who are likewise seeking opportunities.

2. Increase your digital network
Find a platform and audience and write about topics of interest to you especially if it is relevant to your career.  Starting a blog post is one of the best ways to get noticed by recruiters and hiring managers as it shows that you are a subject matter expert in a specific field.

3. Be open to new geographic locations
Working remotely has its advantages. For one, you are not limited to the 25–50 mile radius as a criterion for being hired.  You can now expand your job hunt to other states and even countries resulting in more opportunities.

4. Be adaptable to change
The shift to remote happened so quickly that many policies and procedures had to be changed with little time to spare. Many companies are still trying to fine-tune their processes.  Being adaptable to the new norm and having a willingness to look at new working methods will be an asset that will help you succeed in your future job search.
