Working remotely has beyond exceeded our expectations about the impact of a global pandemic on our professional life. Some companies find out that working remotely increases productivity by up to 15% while reducing absenteeism by 25%.
While many employees are finding it beneficial to work from home, others not-so-much. According to a recent survey, 88% favor working remotely as they realize the flexibility and freedom to make their hours.
Do you have what it takes to be a remote worker?
Although working remotely is on the rise, it is not as easy as you think. It takes discipline in the following competencies to ensure that you are productive:
• Time Management – You must be able to manage your time well to ensure that you meet deadlines. You can take that two-hour lunch if you want, but make sure your report is complete and virtually turned in on time.
• Organizational Skills – You must be organized. You do not have the structure of an office desk with cubicles to store your work. Most of your work will become virtual, so you will have to be tech-savvy on saving and keeping everything categorized.
• Tech Savvy – You should be up on the latest technology (Zoom, Microsoft Office, Ring, smartphones, etc.). You will be spending a lot of time in virtual meetings, interviews, team projects, etc., so make sure that you know how these apps work.
• Self-discipline – Most of all, you must have self-discipline. You will still have deadlines to meet with no supervisor or manager reminding you that your project or report is due; therefore, you must have enough self-discipline to plan out each day’s activities to accomplish your goals.
