LGBTQ Equality in the Workplace

America, we are so proud that we have moved another step towards equality for all! Federal law now protects the LGBTQ community from discrimination in the workplace.

Last week, Donald Trump signed a Department of Health and Human Services rule allowing doctors, hospitals, and health insurance companies to discriminate against providing their services to the LGBTQ community. The Department of Health and Human Services would enforce sex discrimination protections “according to the plain meaning of the word ‘sex’ as male or female and as determined by biology.”

After this hit on the LGBTQ community, on June 15, 2020, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the protections provided by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are extended to LGBTQ individuals. The ruling makes it illegal for workplaces to discriminate against employees based on sexuality or gender identity.
