Duties: Primary accountant for capital transactions and reporting. Works closely with related departments to efficiently conduct and account for capital transactions including analysis of requested items to determine if they meet the criteria for capitalization, proper accounting treatment and budgetary approval. Prepares journal entries and cost transfers. Performs other general accounting and month end close tasks. Performs monthly account reconciliations and researches reconciling items, determines solutions, and sees them to resolution. Proactively reviews procedures for capital accounting with a goal of continual improvement. Reviews facility project requests and budget requests on a daily basis. Prepares monthly capital reports including budget to actual. Prepares special purpose internal capital reports. Reviews all completed asset purchases and verifies that the criteria were met for capitalization. Prepares capital slides for quarterly BOT meetings. Assists with accounting for construction projects and analyzes asset records to determine appropriate accounting for asset dispositions. Prepares, analyzes and maintains various financial schedules using SAP accounting system data. Recommends process improvements for areas of responsibility. Writes or updates desk procedures for areas of responsibility. Assists with system implementation and other projects as needed. Interfaces with internal and external auditors and gathers data to respond to audit requirements. Interfaces with all levels of management.
Qualifications: Required B.S. or B.A. in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field required. Ten or more years of progressive work experience in the accounting field. Capital accounting experience in a corporate environment. Ability to interpret, understand and be responsible for diverse accounting subject matter. Strong computer skills including SAP, Microsoft Office along with proficiency in extracting data from systems in an efficient manner. Experience with assuring proper accounting treatment for capital assets. Experience designing and updating capital reports including budget to actual. Experience preparing account reconciliations and journal entries and independently developing supporting schedules. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen understanding of deadlines. Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills. Preferred Certified Public Accountant. Experience with governmental accounting and reporting requirements. Experience with capital accounting for construction projects. Tax reporting experience.
